Sesotho Literary Museum (Dingolweng)

Background

The role of Sesotho Literature Museum is to serve as a resource to schools, tertiary institutions and general museum communities, for research and recreational purposes. This will further enhance pride and cultural identity among our youth. This goal will be realized by establishing the exhibitions of Sesotho literary works and history, as well as inviting schools to the museum. The Sesotho Literature Museum (SLM) entered its operational phase in 2006 and is currently housed in NALN building..

    Sesotho Literature Museum is maximizing efforts in the following priorities:
  • Intensifying the relationship between writers and the museum.
  • Maximizing outreach programmes and research projects.
  • Management and increase of current and new collections.
  • Holding regular literary exhibitions for the museum.
    The following interventions have become successful annual events, since 2013:

  • SLM in Dialogue with communities
  • Books Meet Music, with a special focus on the works of Sesotho choral music composers
  • SLM Annual Literary Symposium, and recently pioneered;
  • Dialogue with Literature Museums in South Africa, which premiered at the EC Literature Festival, during the Nationa Arts Festival in Makhanda, in 2017.
    Members of public are encouraged to:
  • Visit our facilities for recreational and research purposes,
    Donate books, and
    Support our community outreach programmes.
